Our background in beef cattle and dairy goats drives us to produce a small,
compact animal with a strong udder and good feet and legs. Along with a structurally
correct animal, we like to have cows that people can enjoy. Temperament is a very big factor in
our herd, particularly when it comes to working the cows or cows with new calves. Cattle
that are flighty, fence-jumpers or cows that are overly aggressive with a new calf are
culled from the herd. Our goal is to be able to sell cattle that we feel will be easy to deal with
and safe for people to be around.

Quigley 2024 (Highland Bull)
Size: Midsize, 44" tall
Color: Dun
Chondro Status: Negative
Quigley is a smaller statured dun Highland bull. He has long hair all the way from his nose to his toes and I am excited for his future here at Prairie Trail Livestock. He has had one calf born so far out of a larger Highpark cow and he did not disappoint. This calf is hairy and has plenty of color to boot! Quigley's dam is our cow, Strawberry, who is a dark red midsize Highland cow. He has a calm, quiet disposition with large beautiful horns.

Maximus 2021 (Highpark Bull)
Size: Miniature, 37" tall
Color: White
Chondro Status: Positive
Maximus is a short stocky bull from Hunt Farms in Illinois. His sire, Olaf, was also 37" and his dam was a solid red Highland/Red Belted cross cow that stood 38" tall. Maximus' calves have proven to be short, stout and well-built with added bone and hair. He has thrown about 52% white patterned calves, 30% solid colored and 18% belted calves. Maximus is not a pet and can be a bit hot headed at times but so far his calves have gotten their calmer temperaments from their dams.

Strawberry 2021 (Highland Cow)
Size: Midsize, 45" tall
Color: Red
Chondro Status: Negative
Strawberry is a beautiful, dark red Highland cow. She is the dam to our herd bull Quigley and has a very calm, quiet demeaner. She also boasts the largest set of horns in the herd and long wavy hair. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of calves she produces with Maximus.

Snow Berry 2023 (Highpark cow)
Size: Midsize, 48" tall
Color: White w/ Silver tips
Chondro Status: Negative
Snow Berry is a large, mostly white Highpark cow with silver ears. She is calm, friendly and loves to eat cubes from your hand. She is polled and the largest cow in the herd. Her first calf from Quigley is flashy and very fuzzy. She is being bred back to Maximus for a 2027 calf.

Clementine 2023 (Highland cow)
Size: Midsize, 44" tall
Color: Yellow
Chondro Status: Negative
Clementine is a smaller, midsize Highland cow and just had her first calf this spring. She has fuzzy yellow/orange hair and a beautiful set of horns. She is also very friendly, calm and enjoys eating cubes from your hand. Her first calf is a solid red, chondro-positive heifer by Maximus. She is being bred back to him for a 2027 calf.

Margaret 2019 (Highland-cross cow)
Size: Midsize, 45" tall
Color: Dun
Chondro Status: Negative
Margaret joined the herd late in 2025 along with her ¾ Highland heifer calf, Molly. Margaret is very friendly, loves to eat cubes from your hand and has tons of hair considering she is only 50% Highland. She is polled, and had a chondro-negative dun heifer calf by Maximus in January of this year. She is being bred back to Maximus for a 2027 calf.

Polly 2023 (White Park cow)
Size: Miniature, 40" tall
Color: White w/ black tips
Chondro Status: Negative
Polly is a beautiful miniature White Park cow. She has that black and white pattern that is so sought after and a gentle demeaner to go with it. She had her first calf last fall and calved easily with a well attached udder and was an excellent mother. She is bred back to Maximus for a late 2026 calf.

Dolly 2023 (White Park cow)
Size: Miniature, 40" tall
Color: White w/ black
Chondro Status: Negative
Dolly is Polly's half sister and you can sure see the family resemblance! Another beautifully marked cow that had her first calf last fall. She also calved easily with a good udder and excellent maternal instinct. She is bred back to Maximus for a late 2026 calf.

Sierra 2023 (Highpark cow)
Size: Miniature, 42" tall
Color: White w/ black
Chondro Status: Negative
Sierra is out of one of my original cows who was a white dexter and is sired by a 37" miniature Highpark bull named SJ who is a son of the infamous Lil' Sancho! The Sancho genetics added some hair and took away a few inches of height from her dam. She had her first calf last fall and also calved easily and was an excellent mother. Sierra is also bred to Maximus for a late 2026 calf.

Lady 2021 (Dexter cow)
Size: Miniature, 41" tall
Color: Red
Chondro Status: Negative
Lady is a small, red Dexter cow with tons of personality. She is very friendly, loves to eat cubes from your hand and enjoys racing the feed truck. She is an excellent mother with a good udder and always has plenty of milk. She has been bred to Maximus for a 2026 calf.

Leah 2021 (Dexter cow)
Size: Miniature, 41" tall
Color: Red
Chondro Status: Negative
Leah is Lady's sister and the two of them are so similar I would almost think they were twins. She is also very friendly, very calm and likes to get frisky when it is feeding time. She has been bred to Maximus for a 2026 calf.
